Regulations of the Competition for an Alternative Concept of the Arsenal and Sukiennice in Poznań

1. General Provisions

  1. The organizers of the competition are the Architektoniczna Rewolta profile and the Rekonstrukcje i Odbudowy Foundation.

  2. The competition is open to all interested parties, including professional architects, architecture students, and architecture enthusiasts. Participation is voluntary and free of charge.

  3. These Regulations define the rules, scope, and conditions of participation in the Competition.

2. Competition Task

  1. The aim of the competition is to present, using computer graphics or another technique (e.g. drawing), a design proposal for the façades of a new building or a transformation of the Arsenal (currently an art gallery) and the Sukiennice (currently the Greater Poland Military Museum) in Poznań.
The new buildings must fully respect and take into account the historical value of the site and the character of the surrounding development. The new concept should be well integrated into the Old Market Square and preserve the unique atmosphere of the Old Town. It must be designed in the spirit of historic development, using a selected pre-modernist architectural style.

  2. The new buildings should have a volume similar to the existing ones and be of comparable height. The project should remain a complex of two buildings separated by the narrow Jana Baptysty Quadro Street. The design may refer to the pre-war appearance of the Arsenal or the Sukiennice, but this is not required. However, the buildings must not be identical to the pre-war development and therefore must not constitute a reconstruction.

  3. The new complex should continue to serve the functions of an art gallery and a museum.

  4. The author must submit designs of:

    • the façades of the buildings facing Old Market Square,

    • the façades of both buildings facing Jana Baptysty Quadro Street, in accordance with the markings on the provided plan.

It is not necessary to show the remaining façades adjoining existing buildings.
All of the above-mentioned elements must be placed on a single presentation board; otherwise, they will be combined into one board by the organizers.

  5. The preferred project scale is 1:50, with a close-up of a selected detail at a scale of 1:10 or 1:20. It is recommended to include visualizations and a 3D model of the building, although this is not mandatory.

  6. Each submission should include:

    • the author’s full name or pseudonym (or studio name) under which the work is to be credited,

    • an optional project description (no longer than 30 words),

    • an optional biographical note or studio description (no longer than 30 words).

In the case of longer descriptions, the organizers reserve the right to shorten them.

  7. Works must be submitted electronically (PDF, JPG, PNG) to the following e-mail address:
    architektoniczna@rewolta.org
